Allow yourself to not know what’s next.

Kris Deminick is a fitness instructor, life coach, writer, explorer, digital thinker and creator of This Electrified Life - coaching for the tomboys, rebels and go-getters who feel a tug for MORE - more play, more adventure, more creativity and more joy.

Kris started out with a promising career in digital advertising - until the experience of burnout, perfectionism and an eating disorder brought about the realisation that this career path she’d set herself up for was not actually what she wanted.

“Much of my self-worth was attached to my academic and professional achievements - a mindset that led me to pursue ‘perfection’ at all costs which ultimately impacted my confidence, my health, and my body.”

Fast forward 6 years and Kris is now juggling what she calls a ‘bento box’ career as a marketing specialist, freelance copywriter, Pilates instructor and Workplace Wellness Coach passionate about ending the age of burnout.  After committing to her own self-care through therapy, Mindfulness meditation, books, courses, yoga, and other healing modalities, the lesson Kris keeps coming back to may surprise you.

“We need to give ourselves some room to slow down and not worry so much about what’s coming next. It sound’s counter-intuitive but in always seeking to ‘be better and do better’, we’re mentally labelling the current situation (the only one we really have) as defective - and as a result, we find it hard to find happiness and wellbeing. I’ve found the constant searching and wishing for change puts us in a constant state of either chipping away the guilt of the past or zig-zagging around anxiety of the future - either way, never allowing ourselves to be present.

Kris now runs a host of workshops in Sydney, Brisbane, Mauritius and Denmark combining mindset coaching, breathing techniques, meditation and creative activities to spark joy and imagination. Her intention is to remind us that there’s more to life than ticking off a ‘todo’ list, to reconnect us with the things that make us curious and creative, and to share tools for managing moments of stress. Taking better care of our health and slowing down, doesn’t mean not taking any action, having goals or intentions for change. It means loosening our grip just enough to remember to find joy while we do it”.

With an increasing number of people choosing to change careers, workplaces investing in mental health and wellbeing and the World Health Organisation listing burnout in their classification of disease, Kris is happy with where she’s landed.

“After many years of what felt like a black-and-white life, this ‘electrified life’ is feeling a bit more technicolour. Sure, the ‘bento-box’ style of a career’ is a little less certain, but while its not always a walk in the park, the variety allows me to stay present and remember my own wellbeing.

We live in a society where ‘being busy’ is a badge of honour, where talking about wellbeing in the workplace is avoided or a simple quick-fix - and it’s hurting us, physically, emotionally, and in our overall sense of fulfilment. Businesses run on humans, so as humans we must be well. It’s as simple as that.
